SALAY, MIS. OR., January 1—Salayanos welcomed 2020 with a bang as they
witnessed a spectacular 15-minute fireworks display at the Reclamation Area.
The New Year couldn’t be more memorable as the municipality of Salay also
celebrates its 100th Founding Anniversary.
Prior to the fireworks display, LGU Salay held a Thanksgiving mass and Ecumenical Prayers at the Reclamation area. It was attended by religious leaders from different denominations who led prayers for different societal concerns.
Religious leaders from Evangelical Christian Churches, The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, and Lumad representative make symbolic gesture to pray for unity and lasting peace in the municipality.
The celebration of Salay Centennial began on September 24 to mark the official countdown to 100 days ‘till December 20, 2019. By virtue of Executive Order No. 94, dated December 20, 1919, Gov. General Francis Burton Harisson put into writing the declaration of Salay as an independent municipality from its mother town Balingasag effective on Jan. 1, 1920.

The 100 days countdown began with a motorcade caravan from Brgy. Looc to Brgy. Dinagsaan followed by a short awarding ceremony of the Centennial Logo Design Contest held at the reclamation area.

Emata wins 1st Place in the Logo Design Contest. Emata is a graduate of Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan and a former Creative Director of XU’s The Crusader Yearbook. Consolation prizes were given to Tomas F. Cape, Jr., James Immanuel I. Cagang and Jopet Valdon. Mayor Angelo G. Capistrano, Jr. and El Progreso Salayano Centennial Council hand over the Cash Prize worth Php10,000 to Emata for winning 1st Place.“The logo here represents a bridge or a spark towards a new direction. Salay has come a long way since it was founded 100 years ago, and with this milestone, it paves the way for better opportunities for the municipality. “

Later that afternoon, A Larong Pinoy, featuring traditional Filipino games was organized and participated by school children held at the municipal plaza.
